Frequently Asked Questions


Does MDV have any in-person sessions right now?

MDV started as an in-person experience, but changed to all virtual for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, we are still completely online.

 

Can my child play with their siblings/friends?

Yes! Just contact us to make sure the time slot you want has enough open seats. You can also schedule a private session for just your own group of players.

 

Are MDV’s stories scary or violent?

We take great care to keep our stories appropriate for our players’ ages and maturity levels. Players will experience fantasy violence and scary situations from time to time, but everything is strictly PG (or PG-13 for our teen sessions of ages 14-17), with no crude language allowed. Our Game Runners are trained to curate a safe space and to pay close attention the comfort levels of players. We also encourage players to communicate whether something is too scary for them (Roll20 has a “whisper” feature where players can communicate with the Game Runner discreetly).

 

Will I need any online accounts to participate?

Yes. We ask players to have a free Roll20 account and a personal Google account (school accounts tend to have issues with permissions in our Meetings).

 

Is it ok if I’ve never played a role-playing game before?

Of course! We’ll be happy to teach you how to play (without overwhelming you with all the rules right off the bat!). We have groups of new players starting up all the time.

 

Is it ok if I’m already an expert role-player?

Absolutely! We have groups of high-level players with open seats. Experienced players are also welcome to join new groups alongside new players.

 

Can adults participate in MDV?

All of our open-enrollment sessions are kids-only. This is for the security of our young players. However, we can run a private session for a family of kids and adults, or a group of adults. We are in the process of developing programs for parents of our players.

 

Do I have to keep my video on?

We ask that everyone turns on their camera to say hi at the beginning of the session, then all players are welcome to use whatever communication they prefer, whether video, audio only, or text only. We know that being on camera all the time gets very fatiguing!

 

How long do campaigns run? How long can I play the same character?

Campaigns run as long as they have players to play them. Our longest campaign started in 2018 and is still running! Players are welcome to play the same character as long as they like, and are also welcome to change characters when they want to.

 

What are MDV’s policies on cancellations, returns, and liability waivers?
